Meat Water and the great British kitchen.

One of the things you get used to when you’re British and living in Germany are the constant requests to define and explain just what makes British Food the genius that it is. These requests, (loosely camouflaged as a basic desire to improve the incumbent kitchen but it’s obviously jealously) happen daily and after 15 years I’m slowly running out of things to say. I’m running out of words to describe just what makes British food great.

Daughter#1 (12 years old): Nothing.
Dad (36 years old): Well, are you going to be doing nothing for much longer on my laptop?
Daughter#1 (12 years old): I’m updating my profile.
Dad (36 years old): What? On Facebook?
Daughter#1 (12 years old): No! That’s so yesterday dad.

The Darwinism of ideas, guided user generated content and idea gardeners

This is a Piñata from the game Viva Piñata and as far as I’m concerned it’s one the most creative games I’ve played in a very long time. It’s a completely different kind of game, and a delightful change to the gore of Call of Duty 4.

The point of the game is to build a garden, a beautiful garden full of flowers, fruit and vegetables and this garden attracts little animals called Piñatas and if you’re lucky they will stay. And mate. And have babies. And get eaten. And cross breed. And become bigger, beautiful Piñatas full of lovely chocolates that are then sent out to parties all over the world.

Now that’s brilliant.
