* Why I’m starting too really like Sir Martin Sorrell.

This may of course upset George a bit, but I’m really starting to like Sir Martin Sorrell. There are a couple of reasons for this (he slaughtered Germany’s industry magazine W&V in a highly amusing interview at the start of the year – honestly he was quite brilliant and made the journalist look like a simpleton) but when I stumbled upon this article over at brandrepublic I could have literally hugged the man. Talking about why 2009 is going to be a gloomy year for the industry he said:
“We see 2008 as still being a pretty good year, in fact better than 2007… we think the issue is more about 2009, there is a political cycle kicking in now and in 2009 […] The new President in the United States will have eight years and will do anything unpleasant in that first year of that cycle and we think there might be a slowdown in China after the Beijing Olympics.*”

I’m only starting to like him because he crucified the journalist and proved my point about politics.
