Mediocrity is something, it would appear, that we have not only come to terms with but it is now a part of our daily lives that we actively embrace and now, thanks to Entrecard, can actively encourage and promote.
According to some of the comments I’ve seen regarding this new online peer-to-peer advertising service - it’s addictive and useful. All you need to do is set up your entrecard, and “drop yours” (which sounds to me like an invitation to lower your underpants) in the widget on someone’s blog.Of course you get credits - you always get credits. You get credits for everything. With the credits you can “buy” advertising space within the entrecard widget on someone’s blog. The more entrecards get dropped into your widget the more expensive your “widgetspace” becomes - you become a premium widget space. Everybody deals in credits, and it’s up to you to make money out of the experience etc. etc. etc.
Now, I’d be interested in your thoughts on this.
Is it just me, or is this just plain awful? Isn’t this just another Facebook, xing, web2.0 disaster waiting to happen?
If you think that others might been interested in this would you be so kind as to
Stumble it?

Hey first of all credits are awesome, I mean they are just beautifull, because with credits you can get……. fucking nothing.
I think the whole credit thing is off track, I am personally shutting down to a service when it has something to do with earning credits, for me credits have a bad image. But thats just my way of thinking about that.
But back to topic. This is really awful, I am not going to visit 100 blogs just so they have my little thingy on theirs, so I get more traffic? Because thats what this is all about, traffic right?
Keep it short, I would not want to get traffic this way. I want to get traffic because of my “content”.
And by the way, how does that look, my blog will be covered with most of the time stupid looking images.
(Sorry for the maybe bad language, but I am not a native speaker)

Peate - welcome. Your bad language looks good to me - epscially your point on what you can get with credits…”fucking nothing”. Yes, everybody does seem to be getting excited by “traffic” on this one.

My only reason for joining Entrecard was (hopefully) get some eyes on my blog, which exists to provide interesting, well-written content - not to make money. I take great pride in my blog, and I thought this would be a useful tool to help potential readers find me. That was my only motivation for joining.
As I click around through Entrecard, I am disappointed at the enormous number of sites that seek only to make money, whose content is the equivalent of an infomercial, or are absolute drivel! (Not that my site is a masterpiece of the profound, but I do try to have a point for each post…)
I can’t seem to wrap my head around the whole traffic and credits aspect. As far as traffic, I don’t want dozens of people clicking on my site for the three seconds it takes to drop their card. My site is for reading…I would like to find people who like to read my interesting content and are willing to take time to explore my site as a whole.
The credits remind me of high school…”gain meaningless points so you are worthy of hanging out (or in this case, advertising) with the ‘cool kids’ whose sites get the most traffic…”
I don’t need to be ‘Prom Queen’ of the internet…If I gain a few more readers through this, I guess it’s worth it… I simply couldn’t care less about most of the sites I’m coming across.
Your site seems to be an exception to that…I like what I see so far. You have definite voice and opinion, and I haven’t seen the word “monetization,” so you have renewed my hope for the human race!
For that I thank you!

the whole entrecard system is so complicated, I think that already because of this they wont be successful. who wants to get credits, transfer them into adspace and finally get some bucks???
I totally agree with Peate when it comes to content. Otherwise it would be the same strange thing like the TV stations are doing when they started to use outdoor advertising to generate views instead of questioning the content.

The question you have to ask yourself is where will your traffic come from? If you don’t care about the traffic then you are just creating a diary for your blog. If you want people to visit your website, read your articles and comment then you have to somehow create traffic to your blog.
Entrecard is one methodology. It isn’t the only thing you can use. But, for me Entrecard has proven quite successful in getting people to visit, read and comment. In the past I had more than 80% of my traffic come exclusively from the search engines. Now 30% comes from referral traffic from Entrecard and StumbleUpon. I get close to 30,000 page views most months from all traffic sources.
For me, the traffic generated by Entrecard is worth it. I can honestly say it may not be for everyone.

I look at Entrecard as a good place to discover some new blogs, and hopefully pick up a reader or two from the people dropping their cards.
So far it’s been pretty successful, I found your blog after all.

the other shit thing about this mode of thinking is that it’s the same-old-same-old quantity over quality. even if the ‘credit’ worked - like you could use entrecard credits to purchase things on the itunes store, or on amazon, or to buy an oyster card - the weight of people reading your blog isn’t taken into consideration. like a 0.00 second page visit gets the same credit as 23 minute apsorption.

I agree with gina. If u use it this way it is ok,and everybody will be ok with that.
I personally preffer to find interesting blogs by myself, and obviously my network is becoming bigger and bigger. And thats the way I want to try to get people to read my blogs.
I do not want to begg people to read my blog and annoy them with my add on their blog.
I can see the good point of this entrecard thing, but for me it is in the wrong box.
